Senior Manager, Finance & Operations

The Senior Manager, Finance & Operations will be a key team member, responsible for financial management and operations, playing a vital role in scaling TomorrowNow's impact. 

The role is varied, demanding and rewarding. You will be responsible for managing TomorrowNow's finances and operations, working closely with the Managing Director and Project Managers to support effective financial and operations management of our organisation, including budgeting, accounting, and grant administration. You will be hands-on, analytical, responsive, and skilled at problem-solving, managing day-to-day finances, and serving as the point of contact for outsourced functions, supported by the Managing Director.

You will be fostering a positive work culture, developing financial processes, enhancing operational infrastructure, and ensuring grant compliance. 

You will be a qualified accountant, interested in both financial and non-financial aspects (Operations and HR), bringing passion and energy to solve problems, communicate effectively, and efficiently manage competing demands.

This role will require you to take initiative, be proactive in anticipating problems before they arise with little managerial oversight, and requires a high level of organisation and initiative; as well as a keen eye for detail. 


What you’ll do:

  • Lead and manage financial planning, analysis & budget management
  • Manage TomorrowNow’s accounting  procedures and policies, and evaluate for process and system improvements
  • Refine and manage procurement, contracting & vendor relationships
  • Manage outsourced functions including accounting, payroll, benefits administration,  IT as well as international staffing and HR solutions,
  • Manage audit, tax, regulatory and 501(c)(3) compliance 
  • Manage and track financial reporting for external and internal monthly/quarterly/annual reviews 
  • Provide professional capacity for grants administration to ensure the grant funds are spent as stipulated in grant agreements
  • Work closely with the project management teams to provide the necessary support for grant funding disbursements, budgeting and forecasting, reporting and analytics 
  • Perform ad hoc finance projects at direction of the Managing Director
  • Manage and mentor operations and finance staff
 

What you bring (Qualification and Attributes):

  • Accounting/Finance Expertise: Qualified accountant, with knowledge of US/UK bookkeeping, Excel proficiency, and experience in financial modeling, QuickBooks, grant administration, and compliance.
  • Sector Experience: Minimum 8 years in finance/operations at a global non-profit or impact driven organization, or a tech-driven startup. 
  • International Project Experience: Proven success collaborating with diverse teams in international settings, with familiarity in international grants in Africa.
  • Organization & Project Management: Track record in project support, proactive communication, and independent project delivery.

  • Self-Direction & Professionalism: Highly self-directed, detail-oriented, ethical, and committed to continuous learning.
  • Proactivity & Problem-Solving: Thrives in fast-paced environments, proactive in problem-solving, adaptable, and creative.
  • Bonus Points: Experience establishing internal systems in a fast-growing organization. French is desirable for this role, but not required.
